Fire - Bow Drill

Bow Drill Strings

Securing the string to the bow

Here is an innovative method of securing the string to the end of the bow.

In this method, the string presses against itself, thus holding itself in pace. The loop can be quickly loosened to adjust the tension of the string, and re-tightened.

A. The string comes in from the top right, passes through a hole in the bow
B. It then loops down on the left side of the bow to another hole.
C. It passes through the bow again, back to the right side of the bow.
D. Then it loops around to the underside of the bow and comes up through the loop made in step B.

Another "non twist string cordage" bow drill.

Equipment by Rob Bicevskis

Here is a bow drill with the string made from natural cordage (very rough).

Looks like the cordage is made from the inner bark of basswood.
