Fireboards

Certain fire-making methods rely of the presence of a board to help create the coal. These include bow-drill, hand-drill, and pump-drill. These methods utilize a spindle which is spun in a socket on a board of some sort.

Here is a fireboard made from two sticks bound together. The crack makes a notch in which to catch the dust and coal.
